Lent Day 38
Maundy Thursday
My feet
Washing my feet
Someone else washing my feet?
I’m supposed to just sit here?
But I feel awkward
Ohhhhh I feel all jumpy inside
Are you sure you want to wash my feet ?
Don’t you see the dirt ?
That’s all I can see
“oh dear One, I can’t see any dirt at all; I know all of you. I do this as I Love you.
Gently
Softly
Rolling my hands across your feet
And your face
I’m
So
Crazy
In
Love
With
You
As you are in this moment
Not as you should be
Or could be
As you are
This moment is about you and me
Here
In this moment
I’m just cleaning your feet
But not because they are soiled
But because they’ve not had the perfume of my love rubbed gently over them
See ?
It’s ok
I made you. I know your feet.
Do you?”

EDITOR’S NOTE: Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter, observed to commemorate Jesus Christ’s institution of the Eucharist (communion) during the Last Supper. The name is a Middle English derivation taken from a Latin anthem sung in Roman Catholic churches on that day: “Mandatum novum do vobis.” “A new commandment I give to you” in John 13:34. –Debora Buerk, Editor.
