Announcing The Next Online-Poustinia Event:
Listening Into Lent
The Selah community intends to offer seasonal opportunities, encouragement and support for taking a day of prayer.
Poustinia is the Russian word for “desert”, and in Eastern Christianity, it was the name given for a simple cabin or room intended for taking a day of prayer in solitude. As a kind of Poustinia, we are providing a simple framework, scaffolding, and comforting-support for you to have a day of prayer. We start together on zoom to gather our hearts and intentions for the day, offer some starting places and suggestions for time in solitude and then come back together at the end to share about our experiences (if you wish).
This next Online-Pounstinia comes in preparation for Lent and will be facilitated by Vanessa Fenlason, a longtime companion of the Selah community, a regular facilitator of SoulCare groups and contemplative seminars, and who holds love and devotion for days of prayer.
Listening into Lent
A Quiet Day of Preparation for the Season
Thursday February 16th, 2023 from 9am-2pm
Lent means “Spring” and at the same time was intended to draw our attention to 40 days in the desert. Leaning into these contrasting images, may Lent be for us a season for (re)awakening. Whether it is found in anticipation of the budding life of spring or exposure to the wide open and barren spaces of the dessert, let us intentionally approach this season with a quiet space and prayerful hearts in anticipation of new awakenings.
Let us take this day to sit before the Holy One in quietness and rest. Whether in centering prayer or journaling or any combination of spiritual practices, the time spent with God is intended to center our hearts for the season.
