Communion

To honor God’s invitation for Maundy Thursday,
the celebration of the Last Supper,
here is a poem written by Lisa Veitenhans,
one of our Selah board members.

Communion

Pour the wine

Break the cracker

Dip

Hold a moment

Watch

Dark purple veins rise

Just visible

Lift it, look at it, feel it

Tangible

Lay on tongue

Hold there

Lips close

Sharp alcohol, bitter and sweet

Rigid cracker edges melt

Slowly, eyes closed

Chew it.

Open eyes

Pick up the cup

There! dusty fingerprints.
