Core Contemplative Practices
The Selah Community has embraced six core practices that have risen to prominence in the Christian contemplative movement: Breathing Prayer, Consciousness Examen, Prayer of Imagination, Lectio Divina, Centering Prayer and Welcoming Prayer.
It takes time to develop the richness of experience with God through these practices. Selah offers courses and “accompanied-practice” groups to deepen your experience. Check the calendar of events for upcoming opportunities to develop and expand contemplative practices.

Spiritual Companioning through Spiritual Direction
Spend time one-on-one with someone trained to companion you on your spiritual journey.
The Selah community includes many Spiritual Directors who are trained and certified to come alongside those seeking to encounter and engage God on their life journey. Spiritual Direction is an age-old term for this unique calling.
Rather than “directing” another on their spiritual journey, a Spiritual Director listens with you as you explore God’s nudges and movement in your life, story and everyday experiences.
What is Spiritual Direction?
Despite popular belief, the journey of life is not designed to be solo. Through the ups and downs, twists and turns, bright patches and shadows, you need not journey alone. Spiritual Direction is the gift of a companion’s presence, offering gentle encouragement to awareness of God’s loving presence movement in your life. Spiritual Directors are intentional, trained companions who prayerfully journey with you through dialogue, listening, asking questions, experiencing quiet moments, reflecting and more… all in the way of Jesus.
As Selah, we strongly encourage personal and/or group spiritual direction and are glad to suggest various Spiritual Directors. If you are looking for a Spiritual Director or are interested in exploring the possibility of spiritual direction, please Contact us. Typically, Spiritual Directors are available to meet monthly, but as often as you deem necessary. A fee is suggested in consultation, often based on a sliding scale according to your unique circumstances. Further details are decided directly between you and the Spiritual Director of your choice.
